부산 국제시장 지하도에 위치하여 상설 갤러리와 작업실을 갖춘 부산국제아트타운은 미술품경매 및 각종 미술품의 창작 및 지도, 전시·판매를 하는 복합예술공간으로 부산의 새로운 명소로 떠오르고 있다. 한국의 몽마르뜨를 지향하는 미술인들의 거리로써, 창작과 전시가 따로 놀지 않는 '일상의 미술'에 걸맞게 아틀리에가 공개됐고 대중과의 소통을 시도하고 있다. 아트타운을 만든 지 1년 만에 40부스 23명의 작가가 50부스 31명으로 늘었다. 동·서양화는 물론 목·석공예, 도예, 은세공 등 장르도 다양해졌다. 부산 APEC을 기해 국제적으로 알려지면서 이후 부산을 찾는 외국 관광객들에게 국제시장과 함께 필수 탐방코스가 됐다고 한다. 향후 규모도 키우고 시설도 많이 보강해야 하지만 누가 언제 와도 볼거리가 많다는 인식을 갖도록 무엇보다 작가 구성과 전시의 다양화를 꾀 하고 있다. 100명 정도의 작가가 활동하는 거리로 만들어 늘 볼거리가 넘쳐나고 다양한 관점이 두루 통하는 미술거리를 조성해 지하도 상가를 온통 아틀리에로 채워 부산의 최고 명물거리로 만들 계획이다. 이를 위해서 조명시설, 에스컬레이터 설치, 주차장 확보 등 기반.
